The area
The cottage is in the small village of Trewellard, in the far west of Cornwall, about 1 mile from the coast. Sitting between farmland and moorland, there are sweeping views westwards to the sea.
Amenities
The village has some amenities, including a pub and a restaurant. The nearest shop is in the next village, about 1 mile away. There are several other good pubs within walking distance. The small town of St Just, about 4 miles away, has more shops as well as pubs, cafés and art galleries. Penzance is 8 miles away, and St Ives 10 miles; both have extensive shopping and many good restaurants.
Walking
Walkers can indulge in any number of magnificent coastal or inland walks. Dedicated hikers will find St Ives a feasible day's walk along the Coast Path; or in the other direction, Land’s End. Those who prefer to mix their walking with the occasional cream tea will enjoy the stunning section of the path to Cape Cornwall, about 1½ hours away, and may then turn inland to St Just. Alternatively, a further 2 hours will bring you to Sennen Cove where you can take a swim, have a beer or lunch at one of the pubs or restaurants, or watch the surfers.
Art
St Ives, 10 miles away, is a well-known artists' enclave. The most famous galleries are the Tate St Ives and the Barbara Hepworth Museum, but there are many smaller ones to be found in the winding streets around the harbour.
Closer to home, galleries in St Just and Sennen Cove exhibit many local artists. Kurt Jackson, one of Britain's leading artists, lives nearby and brings vividly to life the area's coast and moorland in his paintings.
